Pro Kabaddi League was launched in 2014 and was broadcasted on Star Sports. They came to us looking for an Opener film and several videos for the rules explainers that could work for their social media channels, on-air as well the stadium audience. We worked on the design thinking right from the scripts to visuals. We started looking for all the graphic elements we could relate to the game: the arena, the lines, flash lights, players and colours in the court. For the Rules, we came up with the idea of dynamic graphical representation. Hence, we started mixing the essence of the league in a neon way, with multiple type variables, colours and layouts - which were very contrasting from the traditional approach. We also accessed the footage and did rotoscopy to give a neutral treatment on the players. The stadium was created using Cinema 4D.

The PKL rules are similar to that of the indoor team version of traditional Kabaddi sport, but with additional rules to encourage more scoring. Playing two "empty" raids in a row will trigger a "do-or-die raid", where the raider must score a point or they will be declared out. When a defensive side has three or fewer players remaining, tackles are scored as a "Super Tackle", which is worth two points instead of one.
